360° in Daimaru at Tokyo Station (東京駅の大丸) by 3GO

大丸 (Daimaru, which literally means big circle; hence the logo), is one of Japan’s biggest department store chains. You can trace its roots to the 1700s in Kyoto, and in fact the chain is much more prevalent in 関西 (Kansai, the western region of Japan’s main island).

At 東京駅 (Tokyo Station), Daimaru has a flagship store that is 13 stories high, selling everything from food to baby goods to clothing to restaurants. In this video, we take the elevator up to the 9th floor. If you’ve ever been in an elevator before, there’s really nothing exciting to see here (perhaps apart from the smoothness of the ride, something that Japanese elevators are famous for) except for a view of the multiple train lines running through Tokyo station from above. It’s hard to see from this video, but if you are actually there, it’s eye candy for people who are into trains.

Next, we walk around on the 9th floor, which is half baby goods (toys, clothing, accessories for your baby carriage, etc), one quarter kitchen/dinning goods (high-end utensils, pans, etc), and one quarter art (paintings, statues, figures, etc).

Families travelling with toddlers are all too familiar with the need to plan your trip according to where you can change your little ones’ diapers 😉 Fear not, at 大丸 (Daimaru), there’s a huge lounge area, a multi-station diaper changing space, and a private area for topping up your little one. Just look for the baby sign, or ask a helpful floor associate for the 赤ちゃん休憩室 (akachan-kyuukeishitsu).
